By: Killian Strassheim ELEMENT-SHAPE: COMPLEX SHAPE Describing FORM: What is the specific commutative strategy? Where is it found? A complex shape is not simple. A simple shape is something that could be remembered, a complex shape is harder to remember or recall. Most likely, your mind will try to make the shape more familiar by simplifying it down into another category. With this screenshot from the movie, Life of Pi, wee see two main shapes. What stands out is the complex one, the makeshift raft. You may look at it and decide that the closest thing it resembles is a star, with sharp edges, while the raft is a more of an oval shape. Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate? The content of this image comes from the context of the scene as it relates to shape. The boat is familiar and more welcoming even though it has Richard Parker on it, while the makeshift raft that Pi is on isn't as well known. Other than the fact that it's not as noticeable as a boat is, it is also less noticeable as a shape. You want Pi to be on the boat, which is more comforting than the smaller and weaker makeshift raft with it's complex shape.
