The entire set, from the garments to the backdrop, consist of muted and low value tones. The overall composition could be seen as possibly low-key, with the exception of the small instance of red. However holistically this piece better represents low contrast with predominantly low value.
Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate?
The overall balance of low values issue a sunken dreariness. This is backed up by the evidence of low contrast between gray and brownish tones. Rather than an exposure to pure black the set is defined by dark earthen tones giving it a sense of weighted despair, making the feeling more grounded in reality. We seem to feel the sensation of dropped shoulders or a zombie walk by the sets muted and gloomy use of low value grays and browns.
