PRINCIPLE – ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE BY SHAPE
Describing FORM: What is the specific communicative strategy? Where is it found?
An asymmetrical balance (informal balance) composition displays an uneven distribution of visual weighs while visually balanced. One way to achieve asymmetrical balance is by shape. Complex shapes carry more visual weight than simple shapes. We can see that the main character in the picture is much smaller than the villain.
Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate?
Asymmetrical balance tends to feel natural, casual and spontaneous. The asymmetrical balance gives our Bloodborne protagonist a sense of strength sense he is facing a bigger opponent. It also gives us a sense of bravery and heroism.
