ART101 Section B —Apparel Design—Balance: asymmetrical balance
Principle—Balance: asymmetrical balance
Describing FORM: What is the specific communicative strategy?
Where is it found?
An asymmetrically balanced (informal balance) composition displays an uneven distribution of visual weights while visually balanced. Asymmetrical balance tends to feel natural, casual and spontaneous. You can see how this image has an asymmetrical balance by the way the models are lined up. Even though there is an even number of them, they are not evenly spread apart.
Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate?
When seeing an image that is asymmetrically balanced, it usually brings a feeling of being natural, casual and/or spontaneous. In looking at this image, I get the vibe of someone who is bold and versatile. Even though the models are separated, they are united by the items they are wearing. The image wants to communicate that they have clothing for any personality or occasion, and you will stand out when you do wear it.
