A focal point is the center of interest; it is what catches our eyeand holds our attention. A focal point by contrast is when one object or area differs from the rest, a focal point by contrast is created.
Discussing content: What does it communicate?
The image communicates deepness. The whole idea of deepness is supported by the astronaut going towards an infinite space, where you can't even see the end of it. The high contrast can be seen comparing the center of the eye which is all black and the bright lava color iris around. The black circle makes the deep feeling stronger because it is placed in the middle of this bright lava colored shape. The fact that the astronaut is facing the eye, makes it look like he's exploring the unknown.
