PRINCIPLE—Focal Point: by Placement
Describing FORM: What is the specific communicative strategy? Where is it found?
A focal point by placement is created when the particular placement of objects or other distinct elements lead our eye to one object or area. In this example the letters that arc across the back and triceps lead us to the letter in the very middle, “R.” Additionally, the black letters and more specifically the contrasting white studs stand out more against the red leather rather than the green leather. We might even say the focal point is in-between the “P” and the “R” given the angel of the image, the placement of the letters, and the colors involved.
Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate?
The placement of the letters serves to bring attention first and foremost the logo. This enhances the pervasiveness of the brand, a sort of forwardness that can feel bold and brash. With such great effort being put into focusing the piece on the logo we may assume that those who wear the jacket are truly just as it says: SUPREME.
