PRINCIPLE – Illusion of Motion: Blurred Outline
Describing FORM: What is the specific communicative strategy? Where is it found?
When an object moves quickly though spce, our eye does not capture the object’s actual outline, but a blurred outline. Because of this, we interpret an object with blurred outlines as an object in motion.
We can see the blurry areas in the car’s wheels, the grass, and the flying objects.
Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate?
Cars are all about speed. So when you want to represent speed in a game such as Forza Horizon 3, you need to apply blurred outlines to the scene. The blurred outlines in the flying objects shows how fast the car was coming and give a sense of hostility and aggressiveness.
