PRINCIPLE—Proportion: Notions of the Ideal
Describing FORM: What is the specific communicative strategy? Where is it found?
Proportion is how the size or shape of a facet of an object in relation to itself is represented. We can see the distortion of the notions of the ideal in this figure by the elongated arms and wide, oversized torso.
Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate?
The garment seems to be elongating and distorting itself to provide and extension of the model’s personality. The oversized upper body may also be interpreted with a looming despair, as if the worst things are weighing down and stretching out the figure; however, this is mostly negated by the sense of looseness and a free-flowing attitude by the way the lengthened appendages are splayed out in motion.
