Proportion is the size relationship of different parts to the whole. We judge what a “correct” size is based on our own personal perception or what we identify as a standard.
Immediately noticed in this picture are the large flowers in the center of the pool. Here we get an idea of the proportions of the plants. Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate?
Proportion can often be used to dramatify objects, such as people or plants, which can accentuate the point the artist was trying to get across. As seen in below, the large vibrant flowers within the pool appear to have very large heads much like a water lily, so we know that the artist wanted these flowers to be noticed and admired, adding to a sense of peace and tranquility that the area gives.
