PRINCIPLE: Progressive Rhythm
Describing FORM: What is the communicative strategy? Where is it found? Rhythm refers to a clear repetiton of elements. Progressive rhythm occurs when similar elements are repeated in a clear and gradually changing manner. It can be found here by the recruits lined and dressed down in a very stoic and militaristic manner.
Discussing CONTENT: What is being communicated? By following the progressive rhythm of this shot, our line of sight is lead to Forrest Gump, who already has his rifle assembled while the other privates are well behind. This tells the viewer that Private Gump is focused and is doing what is required of him, without question or hesitation. An unwavering sense of duty. Bubba, however, is using this opportunity to enlighten Forrest on all of the many ways shrimp can be cooked and served.
