PRINCIPLE: Excessive Unity
Describing FORM: What is the communicative strategy? Where is it found? Unity is the aesthetic arrangement of elements; the elements look as if they belong together. Excessive unity occurs when there is too little variety, thus causing it to create a monotonous, static, and uninteresting design. It can be found in this image by the garrison of young soldiers, all in the same uniform, as far as the eye can see.
Discussing CONTENT: What is being communicated? Even though the traditional definition of excessive unity can mean uninteresting or bland, I chose this image specifically because while it may be excessive, I don't consider it uninteresting. Far from it actually. All of these young men are drawing a blatant psychic line to something looming above, and most certainly not friendly. To me this represents the nature of war, with regards to uncertainty.
