This image has achieved unity by way of variety, and in a very obvious way. The main character in the movie, Her, is depicted usually in a manner that contrasts everyone around him. In this image, he is wearing dress up clothes to the beach, where everyone else is wearing swimwear. Because of his strange choice of attire, the whole image is made more interesting and is elevated from being a generic beach picture to something with a deeper meaning.
Discussing CONTENT: What does it communicate?
The main message that this image is trying to get across is that this guy is special. Maybe he sees the world in a different way or he is so deep in thought that he doesn't see how strange he is compared to everyone else. Either way, without him in this image, it would just be a scene with excessive unity, and lose the whole feeling that it has of a quiet curiosity.
